At North East Lincolnshire Council's 2025/26 budget setting meeting, your Liberal Democrat Councillors successfully secured £200,000 from the Transformation Fund for our one year pilot initiative called, ‘Operation Clean and Green.’
This scheme will boost street cleaning and waste management in six worst-affected wards: East Marsh, Heneage, Park Ward, South Ward, West Marsh, and Sidney Sussex. Key measures include hiring four extra barrow operatives, targeted cleaning, street repairs, and introducing an ‘Urban Litter Ranger’ to enhance community engagement.
Lib Dem Cllr Loyd Emmerson said: “We are committed to making our borough cleaner, greener and safer.”
While Labour voted against the budget without offering any other options, Lib Dems stepped up to ensure vital improvements were implemented.
While Labour clowned around and voted against the budget without offering any other options, the Lib Dems stepped up to ensure vital improvements were implemented and voted to protect vital public services.
Lib Dem Leader Cllr Nicola Aisthorpe added: “When Labour failed to act, we made sure our communities didn’t lose out. ‘Operation Clean and Green’ is about restoring pride and building a brighter future for local people.”
Even the Independent group voted the same way on the budget and supported our amendment.
Meanwhile ,90% of councils across the country are being forced to raise council tax to the legal maximum due to unfair Government funding - with Labour-run Bradford receiving special permission to go over the legal maximum with a crippling 9.99% council tax hike!
At the same time, the Labour Government is slashing support for disabled people and taking away winter fuel payments from pensioners.
Liberal Democrats remain focused on ensuring efficient funding and delivering practical solutions for our area.
